About Jack

Do you know the tale of Stingy Jack?

According to Irish folklore, Stingy Jack tricked the devil into not taking his soul. When he died, God did not accept him into Heaven because of his wicked deeds and the devil kept his word so didn't allow Jack into Hell. Jack was destined to roam the earth for eternity with only a lump of burning coal to light his way which he placed within a carved turnip

This led to people referring to Jack of the Lantern which became Jack O' lantern. They carved fierce faces into turnips, then potatoes and eventually pumpkins to frighten Stingy Jack away from their homes
