There are several steps along a plastic-free and zero-waste journey
We specialise in four types of products that are useful when switching to a more natural lifestyle and a more eco-conscious home
100% Pure Beeswax Candles
Beeswax is an eco-friendly, naturally occurring candle wax. Soy and paraffin are really oils that have been though a chemical process called hydrogenation to become solid wax
Our beeswax is sustainably collected at only certain times of the year; following ethical beekeeping standards and practices. We only collect the surplus honey and beeswax: this means that all the honey bees always have enough honey (and beeswax)- we do not compromise on their welfare, the honey bees are always the top priority
Always 100% pure beeswax. No mixtures, no synthetic colours/dyes, no synthetic fragrance/scents: no additives at all. Only 100% pure beeswax candles are natural air purifiers and are able to form bloom. Even if a 100% pure beeswax candle has been coloured with a supposedly eco-friendly dye; it may form bloom but it will not be able to naturally purify the air as well as a totally natural 100% pure beeswax will
Our candles are completely handmade from start to finish. They are genuinely made in small batches and we are a mother and daughter team (based in England) that have fun making our products together. No machines (even hand-assisted machines), no factory and definitely no sweatshop :)
100% pure beeswax is renewable (unlike paraffin) and does not alter the landscape in its production (unlike soy and palm production).
Natural beeswax is non-toxic and hypoallergenic- making it popular with the whole family: expectant or new mothers, babies and toddlers as well as those who have asthma or who have conditions classed under chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). Our candles are also really good for homes with pets- they often help to calm pets (particularly useful during busy times like Easter) and unlike soy or paraffin candles, they are free of synthetic fragrances (just a natural honey aroma) so Honey Bee Candles are extremely unlikely to agitate your pet. No overpowering synthetic chemicals make them ideal to light anywhere in the house and to give as a gift
Honey Bee Candles have prized qualities such as a subtle honey aroma, the sought-after canary yellow colour and naturally long burn times. We love designing our candles and we are so proud of the fact that we personally hand-make every one of them
Honey Bee Candle Stand
Website exclusive to Honey Bee Candles; “Wildflowers” by Priscilla. The Honey Bee Candle stand was designed by Priscilla to feature the beautifully intricate detailing of the same Namaqualand Daisies we have in our Honey Bee Candles logo but to be subtle enough to blend in with any style of home décor. Beautiful as well as useful: the Honey Bee Candle Stand is a great investment. It provides proper support for your candle, provides protection to your table and added stability to deter against over-balancing from curious pets or intrigued children
Tripod stand with spike: raised for ventilation to preserve table tops and provides stability to deter overbalancing by children or pets. The spike is ideal for holding your candle securely
The finish allows you to easily remove any wax drips without damaging the design of the candle stand. Gently pries off small wax drips or use a butter knife to carefully ease off larger amounts
Easy to use: simply place your candle straight on the spike (no twisting) and pull gently to remove (no turning needed)
Completely handmade from start to finish
Blends with all home décors and is suitable for all occasions
Specifically designed to hold beeswax candles; you can easily lift off any candle drips without damaging the design of the candle stand. 100% pure beeswax candles burn with the highest temperature (thus brightest flame) compared to paraffin, soy and palm wax candles. Using the Honey Bee Candle Stand means that you do not risk splitting ceramic holders or cracking thin glass candle holders
Easily accommodates candles up to 9cm (3.5 inches) in diameter- from taper/dinner candles to large pillar candles. All Honey Bee Candles are suitable to be burnt on our Honey Bee Candle Stand
Honey Bee Wrap
End food waste and eat every bite with Honey Bee Wrap
What are Beeswax Wraps?
Honey Bee Wraps are beeswax food wraps which are the sustainable, reusable and natural alternative to plastic wrap and aluminium foil. They are a plastic-free way to keep your food fresher for longer and perfect for a zero-waste lifestyle. They are naturally adhesive, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal without any nasty chemicals. Each beeswax wrap is handmade by us (a family business) using simple and eco-friendly materials: ethically sourced 100% pure beeswax, natural tree resin and certified organic plant oils
Why should I use Beeswax Wraps?
Beeswax food wraps prevent an estimated 480 metres of plastic wrap going to landfill and into our oceans per year (based on a family of 4 using 24 packs of 20 metres). This is a great way to reduce food waste as the cotton material allows some of the moisture to escape and your food to breathe which means that bacteria have to work harder to decompose your food; this means that your food should stay fresher for longer wrapped in beeswax food wraps compared to plastic wrap or aluminum foil. We've found that we save money in the long run on our grocery bill as less food is wasted at home by using beeswax food wraps. Beeswax food wraps are biodegradable
Ditch single-use plastic wrap: Choose to reuse instead
There are chemicals and other types of mixtures that are added to the plastic film through chemical processes to make it into plastic wrap. This makes it very difficult for local authorities to recycle meaning that it is single-use plastic that ends up going straight to landfill
These added chemicals add toxins that are near your food- toxins that are said to leach into your food! BPA (Bisphenol A) is used in plastic water bottles and in most plastic food containers. There are many scientific studies that link these chemicals leaching into food to several serious health conditions
These studies have shown how even hormones are disrupted- leading to potential endocrine disorders including male and female infertility, thyroid dysfunction and cancer
Honey Bee Wrap is handmade using simple and natural materials. It is eco-friendly and non-toxic. It is also reusable many, many times
Aluminium foil- not eco-friendly from start to finish
Aluminium foil is extracted through mining and is then processed through several refining techniques. This type of manufacturing process requires large factories and HUGE amounts of electricity which creates a major amount of waste. It is generally used only once and only some local authorities have the technology to recycle it.
Honey Bee Wrap is a simple swap to stop using aluminium foil. Wrap your sandwiches for school or work in Honey Bee Wrap and make little snack pouches for things like berries or carrot sticks- it’s much more eco-friendly and as it is reusable you will ultimately spend less than buying rolls of aluminium foil so often.
One important point to remember is that Honey Bee Wrap is not meant to be near heat sources and raw fish. Swap the aluminium foil for eco-friendly and biodegradable baking/parchment paper in this case
Eco-friendly Fire Starters
Our skill of using wax from candle-making allows us to create non-toxic and waterproof fire starters
We have two types of eco-friendly fire starter to choose from and they are both easy to use and compact enough to take camping
Our fire starters are stable and may be stored by food. They are also safe to be around children and pets
We have perfected our ratio of material in these fire starters to ensure that they are effective and long-burning. This means that you will require less kindling (if any, in some cases)
We only use sustainably-sourced and renewable materials for our fire starters- each one contains the same wonderful, natural beeswax that we use for our candles
